Digital Micro Zines (2026)

Social media can be great, but you cant hold it, touch it, screw it up or stick it on a self or make a pile of it on your desk. I think thats partly the attraction I have to making zines, they can be a tactile manifestation of the digital images I make, an experience or gift to be given. Somehow they have more life to them than a social media post.

Back in May I saw an ad online, for a new app that was created to make micro zines. I explored and downloaded, expecting there to be an account set up and an in app purchase to be made, to allow unrestricted access to what it provides. I was unexpectedly joyed at finding that this wasn’t the case.

The app allows for images to be imported, they are placed in a pre set template, Titles can be added and the over all image exported as an image or PDF file for printing and folding into a micro zine. The functions are quite limited in terms of image positioning and the text that can be generated, but in part this is part of the joy of this app, its simplicity and immediacy being very much in the spirit of zine making.

I have, since downloading, the app produced a number of micro zines using images as I take/make them, the theme of this current collection of zines is very much ‘documentary’, and as such are uploaded online to be made freely available to those who would like to download (and possibly print too).

A recent update has added a little functionality to the app, but it has retained its overall charm, and so my search for software that makes making micro zines convenient is over for now.
