While spending time at BodyLand Studios recently I was able to make a start on a piece of work that has been on my mind for a while.
With recent elections I have heard many voices express that their vote does not count, that their voice is not heard. I feel very strongly that apathy and not taking part inn a democratic process will allow a voice to not be heard, however taking part, doers allow it to be counted. I was keen to make a visual representation of voices across the land, and that how collectively however quiet or small, they can all contribute to something of great size.
I was fortunate to come across a number of maps from a series of UK maps, which I felty would be the basis of this large scale work. Using a simple cross (rubber stamp) I was hoping to illustrate the cross that each individual places in a box to cast their vote and have their say. On the map grids these crosses build to crate an over layer image and in how they join, make a visual reference to cross stitch, threads that bind us all together.
This project is still in its infancy, with the first 4 maps now completed and posted online to start charting the progress I make over the coming months to print the 190 maps that are as yet to all be sourced and completed.
